In late September 2024, Hurricane Helene came ashore in Florida's Big Bend as a Category 4 storm with 140 mph winds and carved a path of destruction nearly 500 miles long. As it drove north through Georgia and the Carolinas and into the southern Appalachians, record rainfall and catastrophic flooding tore through communities, toppled trees, and shattered the communication networks that families and first responders depend on. Helene became the deadliest hurricane to strike the mainland United States since Katrina. Entire towns were left cut off — no internet, no way to reach loved ones or call for help — waiting for the connection to come back.
Our crews deployed into the hardest-hit regions of Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina to help rebuild the communication network the storm had taken down — restoring aerial lines, splicing fiber, clearing wreckage, and bringing internet service back to the communities that had gone silent. Working long days and nights alongside fellow restoration teams, our people put their training, their equipment, and their hearts into getting families, businesses, and first responders back online.
We consider it an honor to serve. There is a deep and simple pride in being useful when it matters most — standing shoulder to shoulder with neighbors we'd never met, in a country that always comes together in its hardest hours. Every pole raised and every fiber spliced was a promise kept: that no community stays disconnected alone. That is the work we were built for, and we are proud to have answered the call.
